Handmade Tulip Quilt |

Description.....In 1942, The Spool Cotton Company published a leaflet entitled "Quilts". It was Book 190 and cost 10 cents. The leaflet included a brief history on the history of quilting, how to instructions and 12 patterns. One of these patterns was the Tulip pattern found on this quilt. It dated the first appearance of this pattern back to the early 1800's. The quilter first began this quilt back in 1997 with the hand appliqué process. It wasn't completed until 2004 when the final machine quilting took place. The quilter entered it in the 2004 Oklahoma Quilt Show where she took home the second place award. There is a sleeve on the back allowing the quilt to be hung and displayed on the wall. - Note the image below is one-half of the full size quilt that measures 96" by 96". Click here for close up of quilt. Donated by Joy and Robert Bock of Allen, Nebraska. Their daughter Jessica requested that it be sent to RIS shortly before her death from sarcoma. |
