CVS Gears Up to Promote Sarcoma education

As a key piece of their 2010 Presenting Sponsor Status, CVS Caremark Pharmacy will be hosting two events to educate their regional personnel regarding sarcoma cancers and the work of Rein in Sarcoma. The first of two educational programs for CVS Pharmacy personnel was held on June 8th.  Over forty pharmacists, Minute Clinic nurses and other staff attended the meeting held at Como Park, in St. Paul. An informative and stimulating presentation was given on the “red flags for sarcoma” by Dr. Christian Ogilvie of the University of Minnesota, and a moving firsthand account of her sarcoma journey was given by Ruth Bachman. Pete Wyckoff, President of RIS, gave an introduction to RIS.

New RIS Informational Posters were distributed as well as RIS Bag Stuffers that will be used to give to CVS customers in the weeks preceding the July 26th event. Both of these, as well as other RIS 2010 Party in the Park print materials, were designed and printed for Rein In Sarcoma courtesy of CVS.

Steve Wing, Director of Workforce Initiatives for CVS and a KWRISF Board member, said that the presentations were very well received and many CVS employees signed up to volunteer at the event as well.

A second training session is scheduled for CVS staff later in this month which will include a presentation by Dr. Brenda Weigel of the University of Minnesota.  To read the RIS Sarcoma Cancers Information Sheet used by Dr. Ogilvie, click here.    We encourage RIS supporters to stop in at their neighborhood CVS to thank them for their support of Rein In Sarcoma and maybe even take out a free CVS ExtraCare Card, one of the best deals in town!
