- Special Appearance by Ross Sutter…
Ross
Sutter has built his reputation with fresh interpretations of the old
Irish and Scottish ballads and with his unique collection of children's
songs. Ross has toured Europe several times, most recently in the spring
of 1998. He has performed on radio, television and at festivals all
over the Midwest and works regularly in schools teaching the songs and
folk dances that he has collected over the years.
Ross
has recently released a wonderful CD "Over the Water".
Accompanied by veteran guitarist Daithi Sproule and versatile instrumentalist
Laura MacKenzie, this "inetrospective" recording reaches back
to ballads Ross picked up on his first trip to Scotland a quarter century
ago and come right up to date with his most recent discoveries.
Best known for
his warm baritone voice, Ross also plays guitar, button accordion, bodhran,
dulcimer, and bones. Perhaps the finest guitar accompanist in Irish
music, Daithi is a member of the world-renowned Irish band Altan. An
original member of the Northern Star Ceili Band, Laura has leant her
voice to many recordings but is most noted for her mastery of the traditional
Irish flute, tin whistle, concertina, and Scottish small pipes. The
three musicians have performed together for decades in various combinations,
and their music has been heard at sessions, concerts and festivals all
over the Twin Cities and the Midwest. Sweet harmonies and instrumental
arabesques are guaranteed in this CD which will be available at the
concert.
