On Saturday, November 5th children and adults of all ages created works of art while getting to know others affected by sarcoma cancer. The Rein in Sarcoma Patient and Family Support Committee organized the “Sunflowers and Support” Fall Gathering which was held at Gilda’s Club in Minnetonka.
The afternoon began with introductions and social time. Many attendees were thankful to be surrounded by others also affected by sarcoma. Rhonda Brutt stated “I’ve never met anyone else with sarcoma and I’m hoping I’ll feel less alone.” Another guest empathized with Brutt and said “Nobody’s ever heard of it.” Each guest took a turn introducing themselves and sharing their sarcoma story while providing words of encouragement to others going through treatment.
The adult painting was led by Allie DeCamillis of Gilda’s Club. “Let you inner five year old play,” said DeCamillis as she began instructions for the painting. DeCamillis gave basic instructions but encouraged lots of creativity. “Real life sunflowers would intermingle and overlap” said DeCamillis as she encouraged painters to not worry about painting outside of the lines. DeCamillis received lots of help from volunteer Bev Leckie who helped distribute painting supplies to all the guests.Read More
