"Party in the Park" 2011 Program

The Public is Welcome and Invited!  No Advanced Registration is Required.

Our 11th annual "Party in the Park" will be a magical evening of great music, entertainment and family fun.  Rein in Sarcoma 2011 will feature unlimited carousel rides, continuous entertainment, a large and unique Silent Auction and children’s activities. Rein in Sarcoma not only raises funds to benefit sarcoma cancers research and physician education, but it is also intended to provide hope and relief for patients and their families from the isolation of these rare and dangerous cancers.

Sarcoma Family Picnic  4:30 - 6:00 pm - Sponsored by American Family Insurance

Just prior to main event, RIS and American Family Insurance will host a free picnic for sarcoma patients, survivors, loved ones and for those who have lost a loved one to sarcoma. For the fifth consecutive year, American Family Insurance is sponsoring our picnic. Advanced registration is required.

Dirty ShortsDirty Shorts Brass BandDIRTY SHORTS BRASS BAND will give us a taste of New Orleans Dixieland. Dirty Shorts is a Minnesota original. They are a six piece New Orleans style brass band, playing everything from rock n' roll to swing. People can't help but get up and dance, march, or do whatever the music moves them to do. The INTERNATIONAL FIDDLE CONSPIRACY - from the Young Fiddlers and the Vikarbyns Lilla Spelmanslag. Twenty One Fiddlers from the U.S. and Sweeden! They range in age from 16-24 years old. Their director is Margaretha Mattsson. It will have you dancing on the grass!

Ross SutterROSS SUTTER - Ross Sutter is a very popular performer who plays an impressive array of folk instruments - guitar, bodhran, button accordion, dulcimer, bones - but is best known for his singular baritone voice. Ross loves to sing Irish, Scottish, and Scandinavian songs, as well as favorite American traditional and popular songs.

He has performed on radio, television and at festivals, and works regularly in schools teaching the songs and folk dances that he has collected over the years. His rapport with children is extraordinary, but he also possesses the unique ability to thoroughly entertain the parents and adults in the audience as well. Closing Ceremony - Main Stage and Visitor Center Moat  (9:10 - 9:30)  Sponsored University of Minnesota Physicians

The Closing Ceremony is a time of Remembrance and Celebration. Luminarias will be lit and will line the moat in front of the Visitor Center.

  • New RIS Named Tribute and Memorial Funds will be honored and all named funds recognized. 
  • Special music and images honoring those who have died from sarcoma in the last year.
  • A reading of sarcoma survivors, patients, and those lost to sracoma
  • Special music by Billy Mclaughlin and Simple Gifts. 

You may register for a luminaria to honor a sarcoma patient or survivor, or in memory of a sarcoma patient at the closing ceremony table located just outside of the visitor center's entrance or at the picnic preceding the Party in the Park.
