RIS Winter Gathering - Sunday, January 29 features Hippocrates Cafe
Join us for a special RIS Gathering on Sunday afternoon, January 29th, featuring The Hippocrates Cafe with Dr. Jon Halberg. The Hippocrates Cafe will present an original production on the cancer experience from many aspects through both Story and Song. This Gathering is free and is designed for Sarcoma patients, survivors, loved ones and those who have lost someone to sarcoma.

On Sunday January 29, at 1:30 pm Ruth and Dale Bachman will again be sponsoring and hosting the RIS Winter Gathering in the beautiful Heritage room at the Lyndale Avenue Bachman's store. This time, we will be privileged have with us Dr. Jon Halberg and the Hippocrates Cafe who through story and song will explore the cancer experience from many perspectives including patients, doctors, and loved ones.
Professional actors and actresses read from a variety of sources, including poems, short stories, novels, and scientific journals, while musicians perform instrumental interludes and other selections chosen to illuminate a specific topic. Creator and director Jon Hallberg, MD, hosts each show, providing context for performances.
Dr.Hallberg wears many hats, including serving as assistant professor in family medicine at the University of Minnesota, medical director at the award-winning University of Minnesota Physicians Mill City Clinic, and regular medical commentator at Minnesota Public Radio.
To-date, Hippocrates Cafe has performed close to 25 shows in a variety of venues to audiences of 10-700. Topics have included cancer survivorship, care for the underserved, cold and flu, and eating disorders.
All this great food for the mind will be supplemented, of course, with physical food as well. And the treats will include cakes made by Jasmine Baultrippe, an outstanding cake designer, Julian's sister and Theresa's daughter. Theresa is a RIS Board member and whose family has created the Julian Bautrippe Fund in honor of Julian.
