Imagine a bright and colorful Sunflower themed quilt displayed in your local medical clinic, hospital, or educational seminar. The quilt invites you in for a closer look. As you approach, the small framed description of the quilt draws you in. Upon reading, you learn that there is a form of cancer named Sarcoma. You read about its symptoms. You learn whose memory the quilt honors. You solemnly walk away with many of your senses touched. And now maybe your new piece of knowledge may help save a life.
Recent events in my life from contributing to Maskhelps.com, the making of a baby quilt for the granddaughter of my brother Leigh who passed away from Sarcoma in 2000, to the generous supply of sunflower seeds from Rein in Sarcoma, transformed into the idea proposed above. Making “Sunflower” quilts to educate both the medical and patient community.
Such a “Quilt Making” program can be designed in so many ways. If this idea sparks a creative chord, we ask that you contact us at Rein in Sarcoma. Ideas can range from: Donations in quilt plans, materials, labor; Quilting Bees; Make-A-Block. All the same design or as individual as we all are. We will collect contributing ideas and put together a plan on how to move forward.
We will meet online June 18 at 7 pm to get to know each other, brainstorm and put together next steps. GoToMeeting Link is below:
Thank you for considering this idea.
