Richard “Rick” Berqual was a collaborator as he headed up the Building, Maintenance and Grounds Department of the Moundsview School District. In 2002 he created a golf tournament for District staff and contractors as a way to build team work and cooperation. It quickly became an annual and growing tradition. The tournament soon began to contribute to local worthwhile charities.
With Rick’s sarcoma diagnoses (after four years of being misdiagnosed), the importance of the golf tournament became even more profound. Upon Rick’s death in 2011, Rick’s family and friends continued and built upon Rick’s legacy by creating the Berqual Memorial Open to benefit Rein in Sarcoma which is now open to not only Moundsview School District employees and contractors, but the community as well.
The Berqual Open is held in June and is organized by Rick’s friends and family. Majestic Oaks Golf Club in Ham Lake The 2014 open attracted a record setting 106 golfers. The Berqual Open has raised over $7,000 for Rein in Sarcoma and the Richard Berqual Named Fund.
The Berqual Family is pleased to use these donations to establish the RIS Richard Berqual Fund. If you would like to make a donation to Rein in Sarcoma in memory of Richard, just click here and choose the Berqual Fund from the drop down menu.
