Rein in Sarcoma co-founders Pete and Sue Wyckoff joined more than 1,200 sarcoma doctors and researchers from around the World for the 2018 Annual Conference of the Connective Tissue Oncology Society (CTOS) in Rome, Italy this past November. Pete and Sue represented both Rein in Sarcoma and the newly formed national Sarcoma Coalition.
CTOS was an overwhelming and exciting experience. It was a great opportunity to learn about the progress as well as the failures of extraordinary doctors and researchers to find better therapies for all types of sarcoma cancers. Major sessions dealt with Soft Tissue Sarcomas: with unique sessions on Chemotherapy, Biology, Local Therapy, and Targeted Therapy, as well as major sessions on GIST, Intimal Sarcoma, Ewing Sarcoma, Osteosarcoma/Chondrosarcoma/Chordoma, Young Investigator Awards, Benign and Intermediate Grade Bone/Soft Tissue Lesions. The third General Meeting of the Sarcoma Coalition was held in conjunction with CTOS and co-facilitated by Pete. Sixteen of the U.S. primary sarcoma organizations have joined the Sarcoma Coalition including Rein in Sarcoma. A listing of the Coalition’s member organizations and their major programs can be found at the its website. The meeting featured reports from its three Work Groups: Advocacy, Education and Cooperative Grant making and with additional coalition members attending via web link.
