End of Year Letter 2023: Give Hope

Rein in Sarcoma is honored to support those whose lives have been interrupted by sarcoma cancers and we celebrate those who dedicate their days to treating and to finding cures.  Your monetary gift is critical to helping further this important work.

Your support helps people of all ages, including kids like Riley, whose mom writes (edited for length):

“At his annual checkup just after his 8th birthday, Riley’s doctor found a lump and was referred to a urologist.  The urologist sent Riley directly to the children’s hospital, and within an hour he was scheduled for surgery to remove a tumor.  It was determined that Riley’s cancer had spread throughout his abdomen and into his chest, and he was referred to a team of Rhabdomyosarcoma specialists at another specialty hospital. On March 13th Riley underwent 8 hours of surgery to remove additional tissue and 150 abdominal lymph nodes. Riley then received 42-weeks of treatment that involved chemotherapy and proton beam radiation.  On Christmas Eve, Riley finally left the hospital after his last chemo treatment.  He is now an active 10-year-old boy, playing hockey and baseball and enjoying regular kid activities with his friends and family.”   Did you know that sarcoma cancers are among the most commonly diagnosed cancers affecting children? You can help us change that fact.

Riley’s mom goes on to say, “Cancer took away any sense of normal from our family’s life… However, we choose to move forward with hope, making the most of everyday, and having optimism for the future. We hope that anyone reading Riley’s story takes away two things.  First, if you have a lump or bump, please have it looked at by a doctor and insist on a biopsy. Second, if you receive a sarcoma diagnosis, find a specialist and get a second opinion.  Without the unique expertise of Riley’s medical team … his long-term prognosis would have been dire.”

When someone is suffering from sarcoma, the whole family suffers. Rein in Sarcoma is here to provide hope and support.

Your gift today advances this life giving work and continues to build a supportive community for those fighting sarcoma.
